About the Author: Daniel W. Gotshall is a marine biologist with over 35 years of research experience with the California Department of Fish and Game. He retired in 1988. Dan is also a professional photographer; his photo's have appeared in numerous books, magazines and newspapers; and have been used in displays at numerous aquariums and museums. His publications include over 50 scientific reports on Pacific Coast fishes and invertebrates and has authored eight books.
